I believe
it to be human nature to want to fight and defend one’s self. I mean it is
called the fight-or-flight response, not the fight-or-flight-or make peace
response. As humans, we have an urge to argue our point so loudly and so long
that the whole world will know that we are right. If we win every fight, what
are we really winning? If the learning comes in the process of losing, are we
not better off to lose as much as we win?
We have a motto in my family that says, “pick and choose your fights
wisely.” In other words, not all fights
are worth your energy to wage. Most of the time, what you would win from the
fight isn’t worth wining at all.
One of
my favorite bible verses is Matthew 5:9 KJV, “Blessed are the
peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” I challenge
everyone this week along with the 5 challenges from Saturday’s blog to evaluate
each conflict you will face this week:
1: Is this worth my
time and energy to wage this fight?
2: If I wage this
fight, what will I win? What will I
learn?
3: Is what I will win/learn
worth the “Happiness Fuel” that I will have to use out of my “Happiness Tank?”
4: Is this a time
that I could be the peacemaker instead of the aggressor or the aggresse?
5: What is the ripple
effect of being the aggressor, aggresse, or the peacemaker?
